Subject: Re: PUPT: What is a Fringe Festival?
I've performed for "fringe festivals" in different places: Singapore, for
example has the main Performing Arts Festival, but the local shopping
centers, department stores, country clubs, etc. sponsor venues for the
"fringe." We've always been paid, although some may want to be exposed by
performing reduced fees or free. Edinburg has a large fringe festival, you
self produce and charge what you want during the well-respected festival.
During the 1984 Olympics, the Fringe festival featured some of the best
companies in the world...it was the first time for "Cirque du Soleil" in the
US (I believe) and look where it took them!!
