Subject: salon interview & rushdie


can someone on the list please engage with the interview i posted the other day from salon magazine?  at the very least, can someone attest to its accuracy, in terms of islam?

also, in response to the rushdie debate: why shouldnt rushdie use his visibility to protest abuses within the muslim community?  just because this community is an oppressed minority in some parts of the world (but is it, in the netherlands?) doesnt mean that abuses in it arent quite real.  and should be addressed, discussed, no?  how does that amount to rushdie being a sellout?
