Subject: Reading suggestions/Freshman Reading Experience
Friends,
Once again, I must ask for your help. My school,
which is located in Western Kentucky, has a
Freshman Reading Experience Program. In this
program, all incoming freshman read a book the
summer prior to coming here. The book is then
used as part of the curriculum in writing,
history, humanities classes. In addition, we
also invite the writer to give a talk.
I was just asked to be on the committee that
chooses the book/writer. I was wondering if
anyone could suggest a book/writer (we can pay up
to $5,000 for the talk) for next year.
Basically, the requirements would be that 18 year
olds can relate/get the broader themes of the
text. One suggestion was Chitra Divakruni, who's
already been here. Any others? Please feel free
to contact me off-list.
Thanks so much in advance for your help!
