There's a film by Coco Fusco called "A Couple in a Cage" which documents her 
and fellow performance artist, Guillermo Gomez-Pena's experiences performing 
a piece in which they satirize the western tradition of putting nonwhite 
peoples on display.  The film documents not only their performances of 
"native-ness" inside a cage in various locations such as the Natural History 
Museums in Wash DC and Chicago but also in places in Spain and elsewhere in 
Europe, but also the audiences' reactions to this and willingness to accept 
their performance as "real".  Fusco has an article on this in her book 
ENGLISH IS BROKEN HERE called "The Other History of Intercultural 
Performance".  I think the film is available through Women Make Movies in
