You might also try Panivong Norindr's discussion of the Exposition coloniale in
Paris (1930's) and the ethno-surrealists' 'counter-exposition' in *Phantasmatic
Indochina*. I found this work to be particularly insightful. I think Fatimah
Toby Rony's *The Third Eye* also discusses, in at least one chapter, colonial
exhibits and museums.
