Maybe a good book to start with is Walter Mignolo´s Local Histories- 
Global Designs. Princeton, 2000. Mignolo draws interesting and 
provocative parallels between postcoloniality in Africa, India and 
Latin America while revisiting many Latin American writers and 
building up interesting dialogues with what you refer as the central 
canon of postcolonial theory.
