Here in France it's clear that the French marxists are ... well let's say not
what they used to be. Also French sociology in general. Take Alain Touraine.
After 1968, he couldn't understand what had happened, but he could write
facsinating books full of action research, longinterviews with workers in order
to sketch a vies of class consciousness etc. After December 1995,he wrote a long
book with some mates of his "le Grand Refus", which is staggering by its
repetitiveness, its banality , adn its lack of content. Practically no
statistics or interviews or quotes, just long and literary repetitions of
"they're lucky to have a job really, don't see why they should go on strikes".
He even suggests that the effect of the strikes is to reinforce fascism in
France (Yes really!)
Ex-left intellectuals in the crisis really degenrate bad.
