To Ralph D.:
     I didn't notice lots of ramblings about quantum mechanics
or Zen masters in Hofstadter.  It is true that the issue of
self-referencing is central to a lot of pomo ramblings.  But
that does not mean it is not a serious issue.  It is indeed
at the heart of Godel's Theorem and is at the heart of serious
debates in artificial intelligence.  One can dismiss discussions
of Escher and Bach if one finds them too far out.  But there is
serious stuff in Hofstadter.
