No kidding. If he were a neo-con, he'd be all over TV, besieged with book
and think-tank offers, a genuine Fukuyama-esque celebrity. Since he's a
leftist, none of that applies, and his ass may even be in danger. Compare
the prestige and salaries of Sokal with those of Andrew Ross and Stanley
Aronowitz, and you can see which is the real threat to the social order,
and which is the safe, system-protecting form of "rebellion." The latter is
a perfect example of what Tom Frank and the Baffler boys call the
"commodification of dissent."
