Subject: Dr. Blood Strikes Again [human migration, Barkley's erratum]

This makes a lot more sense now. Mapping of various genetic markers
can help us to figure out something about ancient population
movements, especially in parallel with other independent lines of
evidence. Cautionary tales are still in order as well, such as the
boondoggle of the "mitochondrial African Eve." That mitochondrial
DNA indicates an "Eve" perhaps around 50,000 years ago is one thing,
but the mapping of mito-DNA variations cannot locate that ancestral
population geographically as the original authors claimed.

Based on other evidence, however, it probably was in Africa.

I have not yet dug through my mail, but I wish to
correct a silly argument that I made yesterday in response
to a question raised by Jerry Levy. [snip]
