I'm afraid I stumbled into this discussion fairly late in the game.
 Personally, I think the point you make is a excellent one. Sovereignity is
definitely a key term in Bataille; I don't know that it is in Lyotard; I
certainly don't think he ever uses it in the same sense as Bataille.  

It would be interesting to see a discussion along these lines.  I wish
McClure, who posted the original message, would post back with some
additional clarification of what his thesis is about - namely, how is the
concept of sovereignity used by Lyotard (& where!) and how does this usage
differ from that of Bataille.  This could be an interesting conversation.
 However, it seems that in this group, provocative questions are raised, but
soon peter out.

Anyway, thanks for your comments.  I am still clueless about sovereignity in
Lyotard.
