Is it possible that all this fuss about Eminem revolves around the age-old
blindness (gloss) of con-fusing the singer with the song? Or, someone who
acts the part of a tyrant brilliantly and believably in a movie or play:
does such an actor have to actually identify or be identified with/as the
depicted tyrant, i.e., do they have to 'be' a tyrant? Whether one likes him
(as a man, as an artist, as...) or not, Eminem is an artist (and, in some
respects, an actor too) and is not the same as his works (which sound to my
innocent ears like extraordinary intense crude little dramas of our time). I
mean, I dislike the cowardly hypocritical Mark Anthony, but... that does not
mean I must also condemn Shakespeare, does it? A question of author-ity
resonates here.
