Um no, their lesson was told unto us by the fact that the USSR fought 
against Germany in WWII, instead of attempting diplomacy when German troops 
invaded. So unless you want to maintain that the entire military episode 
between Germany and the USSR in WWII was a complete historical fabrication 
(by liberal democratic propaganda), and that what actually happened was that 
Germany was persuaded not to enter Moscow by some hitherto unknown treaty, 
then it is not a matter of optics.
