Yes, but besides the mere political gamble (which we now know that it was a
loser, in our optics), we have to see that Chamberlain was true to some
political gentlemanship. He was thus morally superior to starting a war. We
can only deplore the fact this elegant equation was of no success. More wise
is to accept we cannot control war, as the mice could not put a bell to the
cat. For we see now a war fought in the name of peace. The more we get to
control it, the more sudden and violent gets it.
Besides, we did not live in USSR, but their learned lesson was told unto us
by the liberal democratic propaganda, so, ultimately it is a question of
optics.
