Hi Jim,

First let me make clear that the position I asserted was relative to the
notion that whole philosophical concepts might be untranslateable. I still
feel that the assertion of a "language purism" in that form is chauvinistic.
I have not asserted that that is Heidegger's position -- at most some of the
respondents on the list would seem to be expressing opinions that are at
least implicative of this notion. As far as I know, I am not specifically
asserting that that is your position.

The unsaid opinion lurking behind some of the opinions being expressed (I'm
not asserting that this is your opinion, necessarily), quite frankly, is
that if you are not fluent in German, you should keep your trap shut on
Heidegger.
