It is worth pointing out that the painstaking etymological approach, the
work at arriving at *essential* definitions, as opposed to those "in the
dictionary" has a double effect regarding translatability. On the one
hand, true, they can show up the importance of the difficulty of
translation, but on the other hand, as roots, implied meanings and
perspectives are developed and worked through, this actually makes
translation easier, in some ways. Or so it seems to me.
