Ken,

Took the time to follow the link to the article on trilateralism. Good (sic) 
to know that all remains feudal with the world ;-).

It draws attention to those "inaccessible" spheres of power (webs of mutual 
interests) that operate outside the reach of democratic processes not only 
on the global level but also on the level that Habermas theorizes in _BFN_. 
This is perhaps the *ideological veil* Cook indicated.

Sadly, what's the point of *knowing* when history learns us that the 
pyramidical power structure is a consistently emergent form of social order. 
The dialectic of enlightenment learns us that reform/ revolution serves to 
renew the oppressive order of things.

I read Habermas's project within the parameters set by the enlightenment of 
dialectic (sic). This is where Cook is a little misguided. Doesn't *all* 
maintain the ideological veil? Doesn't her more robust desire for the 
generation of an emancipatory consciousness also continue the ideological 
veil?

To answer my own questions : Yes :-).

It's a little like the pot calling the kettle black.
