Subject: Re: HAB: German Intellectuals, Unification & National Identity

I read a review by Mark Lilla of this book a few weeks ago in the Wall
Street Journal, which I wish I had saved or posted to the list. I remember
it had two short paragraphs about Habermas and it also discussed Guenther
Grass. Lilla described the book as saying that Habermas has been skeptical
about reunification, calling it an "Anschluss" (obviously a very loaded
term), and that Habermas is very critical about the degree to which real
democracies fall short of the ideal. Anyway, that's all that is memorable
to me about this review. --Vic
