Subject: Re: BHA: Re: the possibility of naturalism
As normal, and in the spirit of good Habermasian concensus, as noted by Dave
(it must be really boring on this list for some, such much agreement all the
time compared to other lists. Has anyone seen the social-theory list in the
last week?), we seem to agree. My point Tobin, was just a minor quibble as I
said, i agreed with most of the general thrust of what you say. My point
still stands though, and you seem to accept it, is that although the
temporal distinction is probably necessary, that is, it is probaly
impossible to study the present moment, the TD/ID distinction is not just a
temporal one as you seemed to suggest originally. Now matter how far in the
past Dr Frankenstien's theory about how to build entities from spare parts
of dead bodies is, it is still a set of transitive objects for him and
anyone trying to copy him. So my point was not that the TD/ID distinction
does not involve a temporal distinction, but that it is not simply a
temporal one.
