Subject: Einstuerzende Neubauten       


Well, my letter of the morning, from Kurfuerstenstrasse, that is the most
non avant-garde place of town........

Refering to altemusik: Whats wrong with "mundane dance music"?? 

Maybe they want to stay popular. I never had records of them, anything
to recomend ??

One of my younger brothers had something, that was danceabel also in those
days. They were known for their "instruments", not very new, only on records,
maybe. They did on stage, what others might have done, maybe also in those
days, with samplers. Samplers are not so new, relatively new are only
soundcards in so called "multimedia computers"......... And they sounded
somehow dark, like many bands, not so bad texts, a cool bandname, means
something like collabing constructions, new constructions.

If this was ever avant-garde, we can observe two things: ahead of the main-
stream, hacking around with things in a relatively unknown setting.
And there is maybe a third, important for success: simplicity.
Dadada comes to mind, a real big hit in those days by a rather unknown band,
yes those bands have something in common........

Maybe one has to have a good feeling of the things that will come to be
avant-garde and to become popular.

Anyway, the progress isnt a continous flow of things and even if anything goes,
there is still current taste etc to "attack"........

And to give certain people something to identify with, to buy, buy, buy.

                          IM TREIBHAUS DES ERFOLGS

          Freitag, 13.2.98. Nieselregen und Halsweh morgens. Gut
          an allem: Abfall, Stueck. Neues, Korrekturen. Telefon
          mit Frank wegen Fonds, Praxis, Schutzumschlag fuers
          Stueck.

          Davor Anruf von Benedikt: 1. Wir treffen uns Samstag
          um 9 im Roma. 2. Das eigentliche Ding faellt aus, die
          Generalprobe. Finde ich extrem angenehm. Fuenfzig
          gestoerte SZ-Redakteure hatten sich zum Betriebsausflug
          als Schumanns-Komparsen ins eigentlich geschlossene
          Schumanns verabredet. Und die wird man jetzt nicht
          mehr los, es sei denn, man sagt das ganze Ding ab.
          Dann sagt man eben das ganze Ding ab. Ist doch kein
          Akt. Absolut angenehme und schnelle und vernuenftige
          Verstaendigung ueber alles mit Benedikt. Er agiert so
          geil im extrem komplizierten und konfliktreichen Feld,
          wo das Soziale und kreativ Produktive sich beruehren.
          Er hat da schon so viel erlebt und immer die richtige
          IDEE gehabt, wie diese Dinge zu traktieren waeren. Und
          ist inzwischen genau dabei auch noch wirklich so ein
          das Handwerk der Problembaendigung so cool
          beherrschender Profi geworden.

          Schrieb eine Szene fuers Stueck, waehrend Westbams WE'LL
          NEVER STOP LIVING THIS WAY Musik lief, ploetzlich wurde
          das ein Rap, fuer die WORD Serie. Musik machen wollen
          wieder sofort. Kam mir dann noch die Idee fuer Anselm,
          unser Residenztheaterprojekt mit der Filmsache zu
          verbinden, das genau auf die Buehne zu bringen: NEUE
          DEUTSCHE KOMOEDIE. Das waere doch ein Kracher. Rechnete
          dann an den Monaten rum, ob man das schaffen koennte.
          Wir werden es erleben. Vielleicht. Hoffentlich.

          Frage mich, ob ich morgen hier vielleicht frei habe?
          Fuer Abfall, von Abfall?
