The avant-garde is no longer structurally possible in an artworld whose
most conventional gesture is an obeisance to the vanguard, preferably
performed in a doorway, welcoming said forerunners into a grand house
already prepared for them.

The effort to get out in front of the welcomers no longer produces anything
of any interest. It's been productive of only token gestures and split
sharks for some time now.

I like artforms that are about their materiality and deeper social and
material context, not about their artworld positionality. 

The avantgarde is now the concern of museums.
