ART METROPOLE AND THE ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO
ARE PLEASED TO PRESENT A
SYMPOSIUM ON ART MULTIPLES
SEPTEMBER 29 AND 30, 1995
ART METROPOLE and the ART GALLERY OF ONTARIO are pleased to present a two-day
event in honour of Art Metropole's 20th Anniversary as a non-profit,
artist-run museum specializing in the collection, exhibition, publication, and
distribution of artists' books, multiples, videotapes and audio works.
On the evening of Friday, September 29th, Art Metropole will be holding a
reception to celebrate an exhibition of ephemera from the period of the 1970s,
from the Art Metropole Permanent Collection, organized by guest curator Sharon
Brooks. This reception will be followed by a special performance by an
international artist.
On Saturday, September 30th, the Art Gallery of Ontario will be hosting an
all-day symposium on art multiples in Jackman Hall. The panel discussions will
include the following topics: The Artist and the Multiple/The Producer of the
Multiple; The Publisher of Multiples; The Placing of Multiples; and, Funding
for the Production of Multiples.
Panelists will include: AA Bronson of General Idea, Micah Lexier, Toronto,
Ian Murray, Toronto, Cornelia Lauf of Imschoot Press, Ghent, Brian Butler of
Brain Multiples, Los Angeles, Barbara Moore of ReFlux Editions, New York, Leta
Stathacos of Art Objects Unlimited, Buffalo, Christina Ritchie, Assistant
Curator of Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of Ontario, David Craig, Film
Photography Video Officer, Ontario Arts Council and Marshall Webb, Toronto art
collector.
The cost of attending the Friday evening performance and individual panel
discusssions is $12. or $10. for students and Art Gallery of Ontario members.
The package fee for attending all the events over both days, including a
luncheon and dinner with the panelists and complimentary publications is $95.
or $75. for students and Art Gallery of Ontario members.
