Is that why they have had such great success at controlling the insurgency? Grin. But I do think this article is the type of stuff that is guiding policy at the Pentagon, and why they are succeeding so brilliantly. Misconception # 1 "The terrorists saw that they would be contaminated with hogs' blood, and could not enter Heaven, even if they died as terrorist martyrs" Eating pig is banned under Islam, and most muslims find the idea as abhorrant as an American would at eating dog. If you fed a muslim pork unknowningly and then told him what it was, he might throw up. But the Ban is on eating it willingly, it is not a sin if you eat it unknowningly. So, if some one holds down a muslim and shoves a BLT down his throat, he won't break down and cry, but he will get angry. Not really helping in an interrogation. The sinner according to Islam will be the person forcing, not the victim, this also applies to being forced to blow another prisoner. etc. Misconception # 2 "Arab culture is all about male power. Our Intelligence people in Iraq obviously understand that. That's why they took pictures of Lynndie England (probably the smallest female soldier at Abu Ghraib prison) making fun of naked prisoners, cheerfully climbing on top of them after putting them in a naked dogpile, and nonchalantly keeping one of them naked at her feet on a leash." The writer seems to be the sort who would rape a woman thinking, "hey she likes sex, so she must be enjoying this" Two major problems with this. First. There is a difference between rape and sex, all the comments I have seen about the "sexual humiliation" pics, with people saying "Hey, I know people who would pay for this" scares me. For a man or woman being raped, it is NOT about sex. it is about control, and choice and force and pain. One of the prisoners in the picture who was released gave an interview, identifying himself as one in the pile, into which he was put after having his jaw broken with a rifle butt. Physical pain has this quality of clearing your mind of stuff like morality, mores and religion. They were being "forced" into these positions, Again they would be scared and angry. but not willing to turn informant because of being placed in a pile, UNWILLINGLY. Secondly. In most of the photos, they are hooded, or their faces hidden by other prisoners or all you can see is their butts. How do the brilliant Psychops people plan to blackmail them if they cannot be identified? "many Iraqis stormed out of their concealed or dug-in positions, pushing aside their human shields in some cases—to be slaughtered by American tanks and Bradley fighting vehicles." Another US embedded reporter's wet dream. grin "muster, and make fun of their puny cocks while enjoying a cigarette. Our women love to get naked, love sex, and revel in the sexual prowess of their American male partners. They'll put impotent "men" like you naked on leashes whenever they want." Guess viagra has stopped working for this guy. No wonder Iraq is such a mess, I truly think that this is the US Psychops plan, and guess that means incompentence is not restricted to the top of the pyramid. However much Americans might want to deny it, people all over the world are the same, statistically speaking. In any population, you will find, maybe 5-10% real true-blue religious belivers. 60% to 70% who go through the motions because its socially and culturally "the thing to do", and the remaining are "non-practicing". I have travelled quite a bit, lived for long periods in Africa, Asia, Middle East, US and Canada. And visited Australia, Far East, Europe, Japan. And I can tell you that, while cultures differ, the basics remain the same. People are lazy, being truly religious, i.e. living your life according to religious precepts is hard work. Or living according to any principles. Most people just go through the motions. The main concerns everywhere are putting food on the table, clothes on your kids and making it through another day. Point being, that trying to stereotype iraqis as ultra-religious, then planning and implementing a policy on that basis against cab drivers, carpenters etc. is not going to work. it is stupid.
