The Undercurrents challenge to all Journalists reporting Mayday protests.

On Mayday, May 1 2001, a great number of people will be on the streets of 
London and eslewhere. There will a varied number of reasons for the office 
occupations, carnival atmosphere, broken windows, and road blockades.

The challenge is for all journalists to look into why people put themselves 
in situations where police intimidation, assault and harassment is routine.

To give you a few pointers-

Oxford street at 4pm- A rally is expected to converge on Oxford Street. 
Campaign groups claim that some of the stores in that area are involved in 
human rights abuses which range from supporting sweat shops and child 
labour, to creating malnutrition in Africa in return for profits. They also 
claim that some Banks on the street are funding environmentally damaging 
projects.

But most of the media focus will probaly go to the broken window of the 
fast food joints, which have become a regular target for anti capitalist

If you really want to stand out from the usual Daily Mail and Sun hacks, 
try investigating the companies which are targeted and then put the 
protests in perspective.
