1893 -- Flag Day first observed in US. Sorry, don't know date of
first Flag Burning.

1945 -- U.S. Supreme Court rules compulsory flag saluting by school
children illegal. (or 1943?)

1954 -- Indefensible?: Beloved & Respected Comrade Leader President
Eisenhower
signs order adding  words "under God" to the Pledge.
(See Witch Hunt Joe entry above). Sticks it between "one nation" &
"indivisible."

1968 -- Diaper Rash?: Child-care expert Dr. Benjamin Spock & three
others convicted of conspiring to counsel draft evasion...
