I'd love to have a show with a real campfire in it, or a pit fire, or at the veryt least some large torches. Stupid safety laws forbid us to use most types of fires for our stage performances, and even outdoors, it reaquires days of negotiating, special permits, and spending! We're therefore forced to make use of cold, heartless and thrill-less technology to simulate flames that don't even come close to "cutting it"! Forget about the sacred and inspiration and mystery of a real fire, people only care about their buildings, their possibly charred clothes, their lives that may or may not be altered. Futile world! Who cares about safety, when good storytelling could be had with real dancing-roasting-roaring flames? (PS: this "rise of darkness" might be directly due to just finishing watching the "Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog" movie for the second time in a row. It's very funny, but at times very serious, and absolutely very very dark. I reccomend it. It's very inventive, high quality, despite being a low budget with only three main characters. The songs are pretty good too, fun harmonies and contrasts!). _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
