Subject: [Puptcrit] Puppets on Olvera Street

A small addition to many puppet connections with Olvera Street, Los Angeles was reported in the Los Angeles Times, Saturday, December 27 by Reed Johnson (Calendar Section. Mr Johnson pays tribute to Eartha Kitt, "a pioneer among entertainers".

"By chance,"Reed reports,"he spent Christmas Eve at an Olvera Street Restaurant where Bob Baker was performing "with his matchless puppets". The year was not mentioned. One act featured a large pink kitty puppet syncing to Eartha Kitt's "Santa Baby" which Reed found to be "sexy and fun, naughty but nice."

The restaurant was La Golandrina, the same location that I first saw Rene Zendejas perform in when my high school Spanish Class visited Olvera Street and had to order our dinner in Espanol in the late 1940s.

Of course that sexy cat marionette has performed numerous times at Bob Baker's Marionette Theatre and other locations as well.
