I've been meaning to try those to see if they had any hidden value.
I'm glad some of them do!

I'll definitely take a look when I can. I'll bring my Leatherman tool, and 
an exacto, to see if the wood carves easy, before deciding wether or not to 
carry it home (by foot, in the snow).

Sometimes I find a single small plank of wood that carves easily, and can't 
identify it.
It's frustrating!
But with a pallet, I'll have enough, at least for a while, to not worry 
about running out of wood mid project!
