Subject: [Puptcrit] Herbert Hosmer Jr/Toy Cupboard Theater

Thanks to Paul L'Ecuyer, who at one time worked with Vagabond Puppets in Atlanta GA (which became the Center for Puppetry Arts with its own building and museum space & perfomance stage) I've learned that Paul's Drawbridge Theatre, 1335 Massachusetts Avenue, Lunenburg MA 01462 and Paul's puppetry career both trace back to a childhood visit to Herbert Hosmer's Toy Cupboard Theater.

When Mr Hosmer, an elementary school teacher, and serious collector of dolls, toys, dollhouses, chilren's books, puppets, games and such, died at age 82 Nov 23, 1995, his executor violated Mr Hosmer's wishes, disposed of his cat even, and disposed of all the collectons.

To my mind that was a cultural tragedy.

Paul L'Ecuyer has done a great service to the puppet community in preserving a bit of Herbert Hosmer Jr's history.
