Small antique stores and dealers love the talents of puppeteers and you get to use their wood shops and tools and expertise. Look for small businesses because you are a small business, it's a win win situations. A large box store is not interested in artist so stay away from them. A one person shop will give you two days of work so they can take a break. Antique dealers need to fix things all the time and need a second pair of hands or someone to mind the store while they go an auction. Auction houses hire scribes and schlepers! Delivery companies are sometimes run by an onsite boss and puppeteers would be very high functioning to them! If you must wait tables, do so in a small business not a chain. By the way, there's a huge need for people to look in on elderly people living at home. I have 3 ladies who work for my 90 year old parents but my father would love a man to visit and help him garden or just talk to him. If you can sew, can you take in tailoring or do hems for a dry cleaner? Did you know there are people who can't even sew a button? Put up some posters or put cheap ads in those want ad papers. Walk dogs, offer homework help, house sit, or house cleaning (pays $30 an hour in the Dartmouth College area) or use your computer skills and offer your services to list on eBay. Again, one on one is best for artist instead of Big Corporations. And a word of warning, unemployment will increase after the holidays because the box stores (even little stores) lay off after the Christmas rush. January is not a good time to job hunt even in a good year. Be creative! And that's my two cents...Ann Legunn -AT- the PuppeTree Inc. _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
