I have a few coconut shells, and they'll keep piling up, as I really like coconuts (taste is great, nice snack, and the milk is good for upset stomach). I don't have the heart to throw the shells away! Have anyobdy here made puppets out of coconut shells? How? How strong are they? Do you have an efficient trick or technique to cut the shell open, relatively straight? I tried with a saw, but it was too hard, and the dremel kept being too fast, so the edge of the shell burned with a smell. One time,I dropped a new coconut and it happened to break in a relatively straight line, but that was random... My input: I have not yet made anything out of the coconut shells. But once, I scraped one shell with a knife to remove all the "hair", and then I buffed it with my Dremel and a sandpaper cylinder. It's interesting as a rich texture, like an exotic wood. You can get various shapes made of coconut shells, at jewelry making supply stores. It sure saves a lot of trouble and dusts, if those are what you need! So far, I've seen basic geometric shapes, as well as disks, hollow disks and slivers. They come in natural brown or white, and some stores carry a dyed selection (mostly pastel colors). _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-puptcrit.org Admin interface: http://lists.puptcrit.org/mailman/listinfo/puptcrit Archives: http://www.driftline.org
