Subject: [Puptcrit] "chez motel" Oh Thank you! that was great!

Mr. Ford,
You brought back some wonderful memories of touring for me. I remember the
exact moment I discover that there's so much room in the spare tire
compartment. I still store fabric and stuff around the spare tire!

And instant oatmeal in the room coffee pot...mmmm! I have considered getting
an RV for touring because the "taste" and diets of a company of puppeteers
can be difficult to satisfy but the gas mileage holds me back.

We do tour with a trailer because we need a Subaru 6 months of the year in
Vermont and I feel the company is more comfortable in a car than a truck.
Actually we are looking to buy an 8' X 5' aluminum trailer right now if
anyone has one for sale. Every time I look on eBay I can't get pass the Snow
Cone Trailers, you know, just add curtains and what a great puppet
stage...memories of Addis and Bill's Puppet People and their bread truck
with a big square cut out where we performed shows in the parks of Long
Island and some very cold Christmas performances at a shopping mall.

On a more practical note, Red Roof Inns give you a free room every 10 stays
and often have promotions to make that happen faster. We also use a credit
card which gives us points toward free rooms for the company.

Tonight on "chez motel" I would like to show you all how to make a
wonderful TV tuna steak in your motel room in under ten minutes not
to mention the multi functional ingredients which you will use to make
a shadow theater after your meal. (multifunctional usage is important
to the puppeteer)

You'll need to run by the grocery store after the show to get a few
items for the motel:

-a package of cooking parchment paper (multi use item)
      - scallions
      - garlic
      - salt &pepper
      - a six of beer (just in case)
      - a lemon
      - instant cous cous
      - microwave safe storage bowl
      - disposeable pocket card board cutter (for cutting the fruit
and vegies and later for a shadow theater project or or to threaten
the drunk banging at your door at 2:15 am.)
      - a tea candle and matches (ambiance and for the shadow theater
later)

Boil water in the microwave in the microwave safe bowl following cous
cous directions, mix in the flavor pack and cous cous, cover and let
stand. Wash and cut 6" lengths of scallion and lay out a small
platform of the scallions in the center of a 14" length of parchment.
Lay your tuna steak on the scallions, sprinkle salt and pepper on the
tuna and squeeze lemon juice on top, wack the TV changer over a a
few garlic cloves. This takes care of a couple of things. Place
smashed peeled garlic clove over the steak and pop a beer. Don't
bother wiping off the tv changer because if it still works, the garlic
is a nice disinfectant. Pour a splash or two of beer over the whole
deal and wrap the parchment securely. Nuke for 4 minutes. A good
time to get a second beer and design a shadow puppet on some
parchment. and let stand and then nuke for another 1 1/2 to 2
minutes more. ( better wait on that third beer) Voila you have a
gourmet meal from the micro wave. (some credit to Alton Brown) Now
cut out a simple shadow puppet with the card board from the note pad
by the bed using the razor knife (use the chamber of commerce
magazine on the desk for a cutting board for your puppet they get
upset if you scar the furniture) and tape on a coffee stirrer
perpendicular to the puppet (the tape is in the car and if there isn't
a coffee maker in the room its a good time to run to the lobby and
grab a few stirrers there). If you are still game, you can joint your
puppet with the sewing kit in the bathroom, vending machine or front
desk. cut another 14 inches of parchment and fold back the ends to
make a theater (use some originality here, you are a puppeteer after
all) Now set the lit candle back stage Don't set stage too close to
the smoke detector or they will switch you to a smoking room which is
not good or worse they will dowse your room with sickly sweet
disinfectant which is even worse. Now for special effect lighting try
squeezing the lemon peel next to the candle. I recommend a little
musical number from "The Little Mermaid" perhaps. You can rehearse
and perform (multi-usage) on the sink counter using the vanity mirror
to check out how its looking. Sweet dreams from chez motel. Next
week we will throw together a wonderful gumbo in the coffee maker
crock pot (save up a good tip for the maid to pull this one off)
Also we will do some premeal miniature bunraku so look out for some
good fresh head-on shrimp and toothpicks for this classic evening at
"chez motel"
