At the Asilomar Festival, Philippe performed with Yves Brunier and Michko Tagawa (Michiko had been on part of the world, tour, and Yves with the whole tour). Michiko was then living in Los Angeles after getting surgery at UCLA hospital to repair a broken arm sustained when her vehicle was roaring through the Andes trying to keep up with Philippe's vehicle. Some of the puppets were looted by locals when Michiko's car left the road and had to be replaced. So yes, I was very lucky to survive that California ride. As a passenger, I told Philippe he needed to STOP the car and pull over to the side of the road because cop lights were flashing behind us for SEVERAL MILES. When he finally did stop, I put on my beret (purchased in beatnick San Francisco), held a copy of Paris Match pretending to read it, while Philippe talked to the officer---if the cop had known I spoke English and lived in California he'd have wanted to know why I did not ask Philippe to stop (and of curse I was practically begging him to stop), and maybe we'd have all gone direct to the pokey. Yeah, it was a memorable experience.
