Thanks for the info, Jon. Have you seen the book, "Dancing Dolls?" Do you have seven scripts?

Subject: [Puptcrit] Hamburg NY Marionettes

I to would love information on these puppets as I have several. This
is what I know. The Hamburg Marionette Guild sold marionette kits.
The figures have heavy heads made from an air dried clay (I believe
the clay was made by Crayola as The HMG sold the clay separately. It
is listed on the price list.) The bodies are wood. The hands are
felt with a wire armature that allows the fingers to be posed. The
joints are screw eyes. The feet are large lead weights, covered with
felt shoes. The nature of these weights and joints requires a toe
string as well as a knee string to keep everything straight. Their
gimmick, so to speak, was that their plays were designed for an ever
increasing number of puppets. The first play requires one puppet,
the second two ( including the one from the first play), etc. In
that way, one was encouraged to add more puppets with out feeling the
need to have a cast of thousands. I believe their audience was
schools and clubs. The characters that I know are as follows:

Mammy
Girl
Boy
Elf
Rabbit
Indian
Santa Clause

I have two versions of the scripts. Unfortunately, I have moved
recently and the Hamburg marionettes are in storage. I may be able
to tell you more when I get them out. Lastly, to hte best of my
knowledge, the "Guild" was never actually a guild of a performing
entity. It was a commercial venture.

Jon
