Among other things, what with stormy/muggy summer weather and heat, the lights all went out in the theater on the campus of Ohio State U Bowling Green and the audience had to take an unscheduled intermission. When lights returned, so did the audience, to see Kukla squeeze real lemons and make lemonade while Fran provded moral support. After the show I got a taste of lemonade---it needed more sugar---but how often do ordinary people get served lemonade by a celebrity puppet? Yes, it was a MEMORABLE experence! That festival also marked the beginning of the Puppetry Store of PofA. Cedric Head had an antique store in NYC and he brought a load of puppets, set up a table in the theater lobby and just sold stuff. The PofA Board thot they should get a cut in the future, of such sales, and a Puppet Store became part of Festival events. Cedric in earlier years had performed with a mishmash of old vodvil marionettes, and with his first wife Mabel, taught puppet classes too. He was quite a character. He just might make a great character in a Broadway musical. Check with Pady Blackwood---I'll bet he still has some good stories about Cedric.
