I am geeting into the realm of fur/feathers and I thought I would PLUCK the
brains of the group. I was thinkning of going fur and shaving it down and
scuplting into a fur look. Or going and placing feather individualy.......

Any thoughts would be appreciated....

If your in the US, Johann's has yellow and white fun fur at the right
length
(short) to
  appear as feathers.
You can also use a dark red and brown as well, using individual feathers
will drive you
crazy and more then likely look terrible, unless you studied the flow of
feathers on a
 chicken and mimic it.
