Subject: [Puptcrit] Professional Association

I think we are getting our wires crossed between a Union which fights for its rank and file employment rights and an association which works to promote its members. There are many such organisations that consist of only accredited members so that when applying for work you place membership of this association as an important part of your bio/cv. To become a member you must pass certain "competencies" that are necessary to meet the (high?) standards of that association. In Australia there are VERY rigid guidelines to sell "certified organic" produce and consumers know that the standards of those products is very high.
But what about those who dont meet (maybe they dont want to, Dont need to, have a disability etc etc) the REALLY high standards of our association? Do they form their own association? Hotels, Motels and Caravan parks came up with a rating system that awards points..or Stars....as the level of quality goes up......Our association could have a similar rating system...Why? Because while a broadway producer may be seeking the best of the best a pre-school may only afford a three star act....still good but not as expensive as a five star act......The whole concept is to protect and promote puppeteers and to perhaps provide a "career advancement incentive"? And how is this going to happen? Well we already have a number of associations, why cant we lobby one of them to initiate such a rating system? UNIMA is international so it would be an obvious choice........ Just a thought.

PS as a professional puppeteer I NEVER EVER make mistakes.....I just improvise some new movements....lines....effects...dramatic moments....... and Alberts torso was SUPPOSED to present back to front at that last show...it was a new move in the choreography.
