We try to bring in one family puppet show to our coffeehouse series at the UU church. After seeing one of Tanglewood Marionette's shows, during the question and answer portion, a father (dragged to the show) asked if puppet shows now were ALL so good. He now will attend shows much more willingly! When my kids were little and I'd get into a dark room, first time sitting down all day, if it was bad, I usually fell asleep. There seemed to be a lot of yelling, chasing, and hitting.. and I would leave wondering if there was a story at all. But then I met Paul Vincent Davis at the local library and his shows were enchanting. Then I met the Gerwick Puppets. and the Ninots... and soon I was taken to the P of A festival at MIT.... oh my! Now I'm a part of the Boston Guild and P of A . I have been so fortunate to see great puppetry and introduce it to my friends and school and community children. Puppeteers such as Frogtown Marionettes, Tanglewood Marionettes and before Mary Churchill, Claire DiMeo and Nicki Tilroe (and a whole lot more here in the Boston area) are such great examples of puppeteers who use beautifully made puppets, with excellent scripts, and done with perfection of movement and voice. My 11 year old nephew, visiting from overseas, demanded to see a few puppet shows during vacation, so we trotted down to First Night and caught two which he enjoyed immensely. So did I. liz freeman _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-lists.driftline.org Admin interface: http://lists.driftline.org/listinfo.cgi/puptcrit-driftline.org Archives: http://www.driftline.org
