Professionally, I do think bad puppetry - especially in children's theatre - is worse than no puppetry sometimes. I can't tell you the number of times I've been asked to attend puppet shows and just had to sit squirming in my seat for 45 minutes because it's so painful. I by no means claim to be the world's most proficient puppeteer myself, but it's frankly insulting to watch people claiming to be "professional puppeteers" who don't have the slightest grasp of concepts like lip-sync, eye focus, staging, etc. I'm not talking about puppeteers who knowingly reject some of those concepts for stylistic purposes or puppeteers with limited experience and training...I'm talking about people who charge a lot of money for shows and just don't care about the artform. - Andrew -- The PuppetVision Blog "The web's best source for puppet film and video goodness, delivered fresh to your computer each day." http://puppetvision.blogspot.com Machin-X "...where pixels meet puppets" http://machin-x.blogspot.com _______________________________________________ List address: puptcrit-AT-lists.driftline.org Admin interface: http://lists.driftline.org/listinfo.cgi/puptcrit-driftline.org Archives: http://www.driftline.org
